Our technicians maintain a state-of-the-art data center to hold your web site.   They've done such a good job that our servers consistently earn the "Star Performer" rating by the Ultimate Web Host List.

We use:

• Micron Pentium servers,
• Microsoft NT 4.0 for the operating system,
• O'Reilly Website Pro or
• Microsoft Internet Information Server for the web server software

Our servers are connected to the Internet with multiple T-1 connections directly to the Chicago Network Access Point.  This means your data skips the middlemen when travelling to your customers.  A picture might help.

In this picture the blue represents CMDI's servers.  The red represents your customers.  Black represents the Internet Service Providers (ISP).  The red can also represent other hosting companies.  As you can see we are at the top of the network which means our data only has to travel half the distance of the network to the customers.  Many of our hosting competitors are at the red level which means their data can travel twice the distance as ours to get to customers.

The take home message is CMDI has prime real estate on the Internet and you can benefit from that!

Our data center features:

• Uniterruptible Power Supply (UPS).  A UPS is essentially a battery that supplies power if the power company fails.
• Gas generator.  If the power is out for an extended period the gas generator will supply power.  In short outages the UPS is sufficient.
• Nightly backups.  Every account is backed up to tape every night.  In case of disk problems everything can be recovered from the previous day.
• Security.  The data center is in a secure, restricted access location.
• History has proven a 99% uptime and we are working hard to improve even that impressive statistic.
